Great Tips For Top Models

It’s a common misconception that naturally beautiful models take naturally beautiful photographs. The truth is—without modeling poses and modeling tips, perfect photographs are harder than you think.

If you are a professional model, a photographer will most likely guide you through a variety of model poses throughout the photo shoot. But if you are an inspiring model and are still working your way up to the top—you may have to control your poses to ensure great headshots and sample modeling photographs.

Live show models, promo models, photographic models, and runway models all rely on professional model poses to succeed. Whether you aspire to appear in print magazines or fashion shows and Hollywood movies; if you want to be a model, pay special attention to this insider guide to modeling poses.

Breathe
Although sometimes concentration enhances a good photograph, obvious concentration can distract and often ruin a good photograph as well. Do not hold your breath for a modeling pose; always remember to breathe and appear at ease.

Posture
Bad posture is an unrecognized flaw in many people. However, for models, posture is a harmful flaw. Always remember to keep your back straight and your shoulders up. Slouching affects the mood of the photograph and enlarges the appearances of your stomach. In addition to your back and shoulders, always remember to flex your stomach muscles. Despite your weight or state of shape, your abdomen will appear more toned if you flex.

Limbs
Symmetry is officially out in the modeling world. When posing, make sure to differentiate your arms and legs with asymmetrical poses. If you have one arm long and straight by your side, make sure the other arm is bent. Whether a big or small angle, the bend will make the modeling pose look more real, less artificial. Continue the asymmetry to your legs. If one leg is locked straight, give the other leg a casual bend.

Camera
Although the camera is the ultimate focal point of a modeling photo shoot, great models do not look directly into the camera. To enhance the quality of your photo shoot, look away from the camera with a mix of head and eye poses. Looking off to the right or left side, or tiling your neck to either side can help you avoid direct eye contact with the camera. In many cases, your head and neck can remain stationary in your modeling pose—and your eyes can do all the work. Head and eye positions, coupled with personable facial expressions make for great model poses.

Sitting Poses
If you are sitting down during your photo shoot—don’t think it’s ok to slack off. In fact, sitting photo shoots require a lot of extra work. If you are sitting down or reclining, it’s important to put your eight on the back of one thigh, rather than distributing your weight equally on both thighs. If you roll one hip up from the ground or surface, shifting your weight will be simple. This pose results in a slimming effect that you don’t want to miss out on.

Cleavage
To make sure your best assets shine, there are a few basic guidelines to follow. Based on two distinct poses, a forward lean and a backward lean, any model with any breast size can maximize cleavage. When leaning forward, either bring your arms together at your waist, keep your arms straight at the elbows and clasp your hands together below your waist, or simply cross your arms. When leaning backward, raise your arms about your shoulders and head, keep your arms apart, and always slouch for the best cleavage results.

Smile
If you have a naturally beautiful smile—show your pearly whites with pride, just not every time. If you smile in each modeling pose, modeling agents will notice your lack of versatility, not your smile. To add variety to your modeling poses, try switching up your smile with a cute frown, a bratty bout, a friendly laugh, or even an edgy scowl. Your facial expressions can make or break your modeling poses. Let your smile show, but make sure to show what else you can do.

In addition to these personalized tips for modeling poses, every model should be aware of the basics of posing. There are 4 main types of model poses: lifestyle pose, movement pose, portrait pose, and body pose.

Lifestyle
The lifestyle pose evokes a sense of everyday living with common body movements and facial expressions. Throughout the day, moments of happiness, love, anger, and hope arise. To succeed at the lifestyle pose, each model must be able to recreate these everyday emotions.

Movement
The movement pose captures a specific action, such as running or jumping. Because this pose is most often used for a marketing photo shoot—the model is used to promote a product. Each model must be able to smile and laugh when using the products in the photo shoot.

Portrait
This modeling pose emphasizes the face of the model—and relies purely on facial features. The model will be in modest makeup and relaxed hair and should pose with a casual, genuine smile. Many portrait photographs are close up and emphasize details of the model’s face. If you are scheduled for a portrait photo shoot, make sure to pay extra attention to your skin and drink at least 8-12 glasses of water a day.

Body
Full-length photographs require body poses. Models are encouraged to shift weight between hips and make arms and lengths into asymmetrical stances. Although many body poses do not require specific facial expressions, putting your entire body into character during full-length poses helps your body find a natural balance.

Keep these insider model posing tips in mind during your next professional model photo shoot to ensure you blow the photographer away. Whether you’re a trained expert or an ambitious beginner, all models have the ability to excel in photo shoots. Focus on your posture, attitude, and facial expressions to succeed beyond your wildest expectations.

GRIND IT UP! with Donna Coffee

Morning, Morning, Morning, welcome to another segment of Grind It Up. Our last episode dealt with modeling from a new perspective and different angles to take inside of the performing arts arena. Our Edutainment will grow and prosper more in depth as we are promoted along. Do you have your glass and grinder out? It is time for us to shed some sound through innovative marketing and divine intervention as we allow it to bring you back immeasurable blessings and harvests in our careers despite our oppositions. Are you where you want to be in your career; moreover, are you around the right people that are going to catapult you to your next level inside of it? Grab a cup of whatever it is you like to sip and relax, more truth is coming your way it is time to Taste & C together.

Grind It Up Edutainment is written and discussed for hardcore application in your everyday lifestyle in conjunction within “The Industry”. Beginning any business without a business plan or proposal is not the smartest route to take, therefore in your career involving The Arts you must come up with goals and not only surpass them, but follow your own rules and guidelines concerning your career so that you may create a platform for others as well as yourself. The latest marketing scheme that I personally encountered, that I would like grind up with you, will promote insight within your creativity and give you a glimpse of what it is that you can do when faced with opportunity that is seemingly overwhelming initially.

Grind This: No matter in which arena that the creative side of life will bring, you need to capitalize within as many levels in it as your passion, skill, and determination will allow to. Have you ever had to come up with an entire company overnight? We are going to set the grinder on mince as I commence on informing you about inner L productions Gifting & Event Marketing Co. This company was birth December 30, 2008 because a gifting company canceled at the last minute allowing a wide open door of opportunity for two women and the 17th Annual 2009 Trumpet Awards were in need of a gift bag company for the Honorees and Attendees of their 4-Day celebration. My business partner and I had to build an entire website, literature, supply 200 gift bags and products through product placement sponsorships, package them ourselves, and distribute them once completed all in a matter of 24 days. 24 days being 1 hour opposed to 24 hours being 1 day is a hefty trick to pull off, but it was accomplished and with rewards. Know when to take your opportunities in life and they do and will always pay off for you. We were models, broadcasters, publicist, volunteers, security, event planners, secretaries, networkers, marketers, promoters, writers, directors, production crew, media, and much more all due to this one opportunity. What hats do you wear in your career and which ones are you willing to grab or leave behind to support the outfit?

Grind This: During your career, there will always be Cancers out to get you. This is deeper than any astrological sign, or disease. These are the people in your life that do not want you to “make it” before they do or at all period. Your number one way of curing the Cancers in your life is to keep on moving. Your dreams are larger than your provision; however, your provision is more than you know. In The Industry, you will always be challenged beyond measure to test your drive and tenacity. Are you going to heal yourself or go to the temporary hospital every time you feel the natural pain? A great grain of advice is for you to write out your action plan now, I mean literally right now. Another portion is for you to get a mentor or an agent that will counsel you through your endeavors in your business. All writers need an editor(s), anyone in business must have an advisor(s) and you are your business. The credit industry monitors you, the criminal system monitors you, education monitors you, religion, friends and family monitor you, the IRS monitors you, but you have to monitor yourself and all other Cancers will fall off. The moral of the story is that if you are ready and willing anything and everything that you, desire will be available and tangible for and to you.

The Truth does not hurt; it just stings a little, do not run from it, GRIND IT UP!

GRIND IT UP! with Donna Coffee

Morning, Morning, Morning, do not look at the time just be glad you are inside of it! This column will enlighten you in the glimpse of dark times, so you will be impressed to feel like it is morning at all times. As a Creative Director, The Arts is a field that has a matrimonial hold on me, and like most of our readers, has my heart. Grab a cup of whatever it is you like to sip and relax, we can get the truth out here, don’t worry, it is just between us… for now…

Grind It Up is Edutainment at its finest and various points to ponder will be available every month for you to not only intake, but apply in your everyday lifestyle and definitely within “The Industry”. Marketing is my business, but education is my life. By the way I am Donna “Morning” Coffee, your host of Grind It Up. I have been a part of “The Industry” for over 10 years now. I know what it is like getting up everyday, wanting dreams to come true and sometimes not wanting to wake up to the hard work that it takes to manifest those visions. Whether it be a terrible experience on a photo shoot, or a client’s impossible request, or a friend or family member not supporting your dreams of doing whatever it is that you do, we are going to throw it in the grinder and we can drink it or throw it away, it is our choice.

Grind This: Life is full of choices, but also full of boundaries. It is up to you to get caught up in either spectrum. Our first topic of discussion will be about choosing the right part of “The Industry, concerning The Arts to be inside of. Just because you are absolutely gorgeous, tall, and slim it does not mean that you are a model, DO NOT GET CAUGHT UP in people’s claims over your life before you have claimed it on your own first. You may be an excellent spoke’s person that trains people about products and services that a company has to offer. While you are still a model, you are in another class all your own. A CLASS ALL YOUR OWN, this is where you want to be when dealing with “The Industry”. Your appeal and stature may book a million dollar client and you walk away with 20% of the take, and once you get familiarized with this process, the company makes you a partner and you get 50%. Imaging that. You are still modeling, just in another class. DO NOT GET CAUGHT UP in runway, or print, or catalog, or commercial titles for modeling, you can be your own model, make your own way. Keep in the front of your mind that the Y in the road also has a middle portion.

Grind This: Calling all actors, dancers and singers. Anyone in that has to use their talents in these capacities full knows that The Performing Arts have to be the most difficult so we will grind slow here. I would tell you to intern at a theatre, film studio, or on the set of a show, but you already know to do that. I would also further explain to you that this industry is about whom you know and how they know you, so you better get to know some top notch people, but you also know that as well. The thing that you probably are not aware of is the fact that becoming a publicist or a script writer is your best route to take if you are finding difficulty “breaking a leg” on your first take. Think of it this way, you are still acting, you also have full autonomy of each character, your audience, and overall your project. Making money should not be your target in your dream, wake up and smell the coffee, you are going to make money no matter what, your focus should be more geared on how long, how much, and where you are going to direct those funds afterwards. You may say you are not a good writer, but if you are a good actor, trust yourself, you can most definitely write as well. What better way to approach a director to say, “I would like to work with you on this script that I wrote”, and then they see you acting it out and give you the role? Make your own way.

The Truth doesn’t hurt, it just stings a little, don’t run from it, GRIND IT UP!
